MUSIC
Welcome to a new School Year 2025-2026!
Music education is important in the totality of child’s learning process as it involves a lot of skills that are also needed in achieving success in other subjects. Music is not only about movement, singing, or playing musical instruments. Aside from these physical activities, music also helps in the development of students psychologically, socially, morally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Music classes include basic theories where students learn the elements of music-Rhythm, Melody, Harmony, Dynamics, Form, and Tone Color. Music history is also discussed where students learn different periods of music, from Renaissance to Contemporary composers and their masterpieces. Classroom activities include music listening, singing, movements, conducting, playing classroom instruments, reading and writing. We will cover classical music, Broadway, religious, patriotic, standard, and pop music as well. We will also listen to some international music like Spanish, German, Italian, French, and Latin music.
Music is taught once a week, forty-five minutes for Kindergarten through 2nd grade, and one hour for Grades 3 through 8. Recorder class playing begins in Grade 3. And students buy their own instruments. There is celebration of the Holy Eucharist every Friday, Feast days on the Catholic calendar, and special occasions too. This school year, we will also have Eucharistic Adoration or Holy Hour once a month. Additionally, all classes will participate in two major concerts, Christmas and Spring.
Music is a performing art where students are encouraged to participate. RESPECT is one value that is instilled in all classes where everyone is appreciated and encouraged to explore and share their God-given talents. Students are graded based on participation, attendance, and discipline. We have a school choir which is open to students in Grades 4 through 8. Members are required to attend rehearsal every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7:50-8:20am. Choir members sing at our weekly Masses and some other school events.
I am looking forward to another blessed and fun-filled school year.
Sincerely,
Mr. Cruz
Music Director
