Weekly Notable News Update

Dear Parents,

Our May altar will honor Mary. Each week we will place fresh flowers at her special altar. Please send fresh flowers (no lillies) on the first day of the assigned week. Students are asked to bring flowers according to their mailbox numbers on the following weeks:

May 6: #s 7-11
May 13: #s 12-16
May 20: #s 17-22

Our Life Skill will be Problem Solving. We will be reading about and discussing how we must seek solutions. Let's finish strong.

We will be working in Superkids unit 16B. Sentences will be assigned for homework Monday. Please alphabetize the list words and write  interesting complete sentences. Use at least one question. Do not start more than one sentence with a pronoun (I, we, he, she, they). Students will take a Spelling Test on Thursday. Please practice vocabulary unit 16.

All students must be prepared to take 2 AR quizzes each week. Please check the AR site to see how many points your child has. It is important to continue to encourage your children to read.  Nightly reading provides golden opportunities to increase fluency and comprehension.

Superkids video recordings are due Thursday  by 6:00 pm  evening. Please be sure to read clearly. Please also remove extra noise in the area for the 3 minutes it takes to record. It is hard to grade fluency with extra noise. This is a homework assignment. Please be punctual.

  • Please practice: telling time to the half hour on a dial face/analog clock, identifying coins, trading coins, and coin values.
  • One on One math fact assessments 0-15 will be completed weekly.  Timed drills may not always reflect your child's finest printing since they are quickly recording answers. Please continue to assist your children in memorizing math fact families 0-15 (i.e. 1+2=3, 2+1=3, 3-1=2, 3-2=1). These facts must be committed to memory with quick recall. Counting on fingers or using number lines are not acceptable.

As primary educators, please insist on your child's best efforts. Please provide a clean, organized area without distractions for completing homework. Some homework has been handed in with grease, food etc. on it.  Erasing must be complete. Please read and follow all directions carefully.

Your child's finest effort is expected on all work (printing, cutting, coloring). Work that is completed messy will result in your child redoing it during their recess. This is a school-wide policy and is still in effect when necessary. Please reinforce with your children the expectations of high standards and consequences directly connected to work quality. Entering 2nd Grade is only two months away. Let's finish strong!

God bless you for your unending support.  Have a terrific week! Please be sure to read the Home and School Connection for weekly information.

Blessings,

Mrs. Thomas
