6th Grade
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2025-2026 Grade 6 Homeroom! I’m thrilled to welcome your child to 6th grade! As their Religion and Social Studies teacher, I am committed to creating a classroom environment where students feel safe, supported, and excited to learn and grow both academically and spiritually.
Curriculum
In Religion, we will be using the Christ Our Life textbook to guide us through God’s Divine Revelation and His covenant with His people. Our focus will be on the Old Testament and how it prepares the way for Jesus Christ. Students will strengthen their understanding of Scripture, deepen their relationship with God, and learn how to live out their faith in daily life. Religion will be taught for four days. Both subjects are taught four days a week. Lessons will include scripture reading, writing, group collaboration, class discussions, and creative assignments, all designed to support different learning styles and keep students actively engaged.
In Social Studies, we will begin our journey through early civilizations and ancient cultures. Students will develop historical thinking skills by exploring timelines, geography, and the impact of ancient societies on our world today. Through engaging lessons, discussions, and hands-on projects, they’ll learn to think critically about the past and make meaningful connections to the present. Social Studies will be taught five days a week.
I look forward to a year of growth, discovery, and faith with your children. Thank you for your support and for entrusting me with their formation.
Classroom Expectations
A positive and disciplined classroom environment is important to the learning process. We are confident the students will meet our school’s behavior expectations. When necessary, appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken. If a student disrupts the learning experience, a warning will be given. If the behavior continues, a Parent Notification will be issued. If necessary, a parent-teacher conference will be scheduled.
Student Supplies
Students are required to have the following materials available for class each day:
- textbook (a resource that will be used daily)
- assignment book (assignments, quizzes, and tests will be recorded daily)
- Composition book
Please note: Students will be extensively utilizing their composition book. Definitions and notes will be recorded in the composition book daily. Examples of the concept(s) to be focusing on will be introduced in class. This is the time for the students to ask questions so that they may feel comfortable completing their homework independently.
Homework
Homework is an essential part of understanding what was taught each day. Therefore, homework will generally be assigned on a nightly basis. On occasion, students will also be assigned homework over the weekend. This will include studying for tests and quizzes, completed neatly and accurately in cursive and in ink. It is the responsibility of each student to record homework assignments daily. Assignments should be immediately placed in the assignment book to ensure all necessary books go home with the student at dismissal.
IXL online assignments are assigned throughout the year, with a sufficient amount of time allotted for each series of assignments. Please check the online homework board for assigned dates and due dates for IXL. These assignments will be graded and recorded as a homework grade.
FACTS
Parents and students will once again be able to access current grades on the FACTS gradebook site. Checking the site weekly will allow you to stay current on your child’s progress and to assess areas of difficulty. Further practice may be needed in some areas or a conference if significant problem areas need to be addressed. An “M” indicates a missing assignment and is reflected in the student’s current grade. Once the student has made up the assignment, the appropriate grade will be documented in the system, and the student’s score will be adjusted.
Absences and make-up work
When a student returns to school, they will be required to obtain any pertinent class notes as soon as possible so they are prepared for notebook quizzes. All missing work needs to be submitted promptly (one day will be permitted for each day absent). It will be the student’s responsibility to check what has been missed, so that work can be completed and submitted for grading. Parents are encouraged to check their children’s homework for completion as well as accuracy. If a student is absent when a test is given, they will be expected to make up the test promptly. If they had enough advance notice of the test before being absent, they will be expected to make up the test on their return or the following day.
Extra credit
Extra credit opportunities may be offered to the entire class from time to time. Extra credit will not be issued on an individual basis.
Questions and appointments
If you have any questions or require a meeting, I encourage you to write, call, or e-mail – [email protected]. I will be certain to respond to your correspondence promptly.
Working together as a team will ensure that your child becomes an independent and successful lifelong learner. Your cooperation and support will be greatly appreciated.
I am looking forward to working with you on behalf of your child during a successful and enjoyable new school year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Carol Wilson
