Weekly Notable News Update

Dear Parents,

It was wonderful to have so many parents and grandparents join us for our first Prayer and Flag ceremony and Trunk or Treat! Fourteen creative pumpkins were decorated and 6 ofrendas were brought in. Several trunks were decorated in high fashion! We have a lot of talent in First Grade.

Thank you for your kind words, cards, flowers, gifts, and the lunch to celebrate my birthday. I am truly grateful of your unending support and thoughtfulness. You are in my prayers.

Our Life Skill for the week is Sense of Humor. We will be discussing and reading about the importance of having fun without hurting someone's feelings.

In Math we are  working in Ch. 5  Measurement. We are using standard (rulers) and non-standard units. Hands on activities and manipulatives (paper clips, unifix cubes, etc.) are being used. Please continue to practice addition and subtraction fact families 0-8. Weekly timed drills and one on one assessments will continue. Timed math fact drills are for quick recall. Please excuse the less than perfect printing on the drills. Students need to have quick recall of the sums and differences.

We will be working in Unit 5 of the Superkids. Please practice Units 4 and 5 vocabulary words on Seesaw to help your child read them easily. These words must be read without being sounded out. Some of the Vocabulary words will also be on the Spelling lists, handwriting, and dictation lessons.

Homework: Please help your child read both weekly stories. The first story is the "Super Short" it will need to be video recorded by 6:00 pm on Thursday night. Please post the video on the Assignment section (lightbulb icon). The journal section is only for graded assignments.

The Unit 5a Spelling test will be Thursday. Please study all 10 words.

Accelerated Reading (AR) quizzes are part of weekly homework. Please remember to include a completed AR form and the quiz number for each quiz. (See link).

This amazing progress is a direct reflection on your support and dedication to your child's progress in Reading development. Pleasure reading provides golden opportunities to instill a love for reading and increase a variety of skills (comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, fluency, spelling, and writing). The more students read, the better they read and write.

As primary educators, parents are asked to insist on neat work. Your child's finest effort is expected on all work including homework (coloring, printing, cutting etc.). Please be sure to have a clean surface for the completion of homework. Papers must not have oil, food, etc. on them when handing them in. (This is a direct reflection of your support, and student effort and integrity in all work).

November is a busy month. We only have 13 school days. Please do not schedule appointments, arrive late, or leave early. Curriculum is covered every day during the school hours. Disruptions effect overall performance in academic progress and interrupt our schedule. Thank you for your kind and considerate attention to this. As the weather changes, please remind your children of the importance in washing hands with soap. Students have access to hand sanitizer. It is also a good idea to buy a small hand sanitizer and attach it to the lunchbox as.
